Every fortnight, wif team, in collaboration with the Pole Excellence e-Design, invites you to discover an interview of an interactive designer. This week, Qian Qian: graphic designer from United States.
wif : « Only one sentence to describe yourself… »
Qian: I am Chinese graphic designer and illustrator living and working in New York City.
wif : « You don’t just suddenly become a webdesigner. Tell me what led you to this world? »
Qian: I saw some cool Flash websites back in 1999, and then started teaching myself how to make something like that. Later, I realized that what I really enjoy is the design aspect of it.
wif : « According to you, to what extend technologic advances (human/machine interface, touchscreen, touchpad) do influence e-Design innovations? I mean: what is design role in these advances? »
Qian: A well designed interface or interactive product will make technology invisible. Design is to make complicated things simple, easy and with soul.
wif : « Taking your experience into account, can try you to imagine and tell me what your job and works will look like in the 5 next years? »
Qian: I guess branding will go more immersive, like blockbuster movies, which invade all aspects of life. Character and storytelling will be the core.

wif : « According to you, what media or what innovation has had the greatest impact lately? »
Qian: iPhone.
wif : « On the opposite, what innovation has been the most useless, a complete “revolution disaster”? »
Qian: I don’t know of one right now.
