Among the French scenery, the Limousin is characterised as being the green country of trees and water which always deserves this judgement by Arthur Young: “For general beauty, I prefer the Limousin to other provinces. The hills, the valleys, the woods, the enclosures, the streams, the lakes and the scattered farms all form one thousand delicious paintings”. The Limousin is a welcoming region, its migratory balance stays positive and it has become the 9th French region for attractiveness. International leaders have moved there: Legrand, Norisko- Dekkra, Madrange, Blédina, International Paper and Valéo etc. The Limousin is a region of tradition still today but also of innovation with 1,650 researchers and 6 centres of engineering competitiveness. The Limousin is also the only French region to have installed an optic fibre network over all its territory allowing high speed access and guaranteeing that your installation is, as near as possible, to a privileged lifestyle.
The town of Limoges concentrates mainly on research and development of the Limousin region on its territory. The Ester technopole of Limoges and the Limousin, the centres of competitiveness (Elopsys and Ceramic), Biocritt, and water treatment etc. illustrate to perfection the capacity of our territory in developing channels of excellence. ESTER, head of this mechanism, offers indispensable tools for the creation of young innovative enterprises with technology, breeding ground and the company of capital risk but also by establishing a state of mind favourable to exchanges between the world of University and research and one of the enterprise.
For the period of 2007-2013, the Limousin benefited from European structural funds (FEDER-FSE) in the name of the Objective “regional competitiveness and employment”. This objective is registered in the framework of European cohesion policy and translates the strategies defined during the European summits of Lisbon and Göteborg. Lisbon (March 2000): “make Europe the economy founded on the most competitive and dynamic knowledge of the world”. Göteborg (June 2001): “ Expansion for the strategy for environmental protection and for the production of a model of sustainable development. The Wif benefits specially from support from the FEDER (European fund for regional development). Notably, it finances research and innovation, modernisation of enterprises, renewable energies, sustainable development and certain regional infrastructures.
